New York with a 1 year old

My wife and I and our one-year old daughter are going to be in the New York area for a day. Any suggestions for activities for us (either in Manhattan or elsewhere -- we have access to a car) that will be okay to bring the baby to?

You can certainly enjoy Central Park and the Central Park Zoo.

They have a childrens zoo as well.

There are also many playgrounds in the park.

I agree that the Central Park Zoo and the playgrounds near it are your best bet, but it also depends on where you%26#39;re going to be staying, I have 2 kids and always found it very, very hard to do anything with a 1 year old. Are you going to be staying in Manhattan or is it that you will just be in the area? If the latter, what area, there may be better choices. Also, when will you be doing this? Summer in NYC can be very hard on little kids -- not just hot but humid, something you Angelenos won%26#39;t be used to.

On the other hand, if your kid stays by your side nicely, eg in a stroller, you can do almost anything, including the museums (but the last time I checked the Metropolitan and maybe some others had restrictions on the use of strollers due to the crowds).

The Metropolitan has restrictions on strollers on weekends and for some special exhibits, but they are okay the rest of the time.

If your daughter travels well, you really can take her anywhere. My sixteen month old goes most places with us and as long as it isn%26#39;t near nap time when she%26#39;s cranky, it%26#39;s fine.
