I went to the Grimaldi%26#39;s website last night and it said it%26#39;s under the bridge.

You do realize (I hope) that Coney Island is at the extreme southern end of Kings County, while the Brooklyn Bridge is towards its northern tip? The two sites are not anywhere close to each other.

If you are aware of that, though, and still want to do this, you should take the F train from Sillwell Avenue (Coney Island) for the long trip back to downtown Brooklyn. You can either stay on the F to York Street and walk through ';DUMBO'; (as they now call it) to get to Grimaldi%26#39;s -- fairly easy, but you MUST have a street map -- or you can change to the A or C train one station before at Jay Street/Borough Hall/MetroTech, and take the A or C one stop to High Street station. (There are explicit directions from High Street to Grimaldi%26#39;s and also back to the bridge walkway on this site if you do a search.)

thanks greenwhiteblue...I realize they are not close, but I thought it would save another trip downtown....hopstop gave the same directions as you and said it would take an 1 hour and 8 minutes, same travel time as midtown to coney island...I will be flexible but its a possibility

How long will you be here for? Is this your first trip? Who is in your party and what ages?

I ask these because it would help figure out whether you should spend a day at Coney Island or not.

If you%26#39;re going to go all the way to Coney Island for the day, then you should def also do:

* The Coney Island ';Sideshow by the Seashore'; - yes, probably a waste of money, but it is a traditional freak show in all its ';glory';. A NYC original.

* The New York Aquarium (very small, but adorable and cute. Manageable size, good specimens, nice staff.)

* Eat Russian food in Brighton Beach. It%26#39;s one subway stop or a 15 minute walk from Coeny Island. Good restaurants are Primorski%26#39;s and Anna%26#39;s Cappuccino Cafe. The restaurants on the boardwalk are scenic but overpriced. Primorski%26#39;s is the epitome of ';Little Odessa'; Russian kitsch. Also, go shopping at M%26amp;T International Foods.

By the way, I wouldn%26#39;t go swimming in Coney Island waters. Or at least don%26#39;t put your head in. Believe me, the beaches are WAY CLEANER than they used to be, but there are two factors working against perfect hygiene: 1. The sheer numbers of humans on the beach, 2. the proximity to a waste-water treatment plant. The water will never be 100% clean, so swim at your own risk.

Queens, Its myself, a single mom, mid 40%26#39;s, ok late 40%26#39;s and my 3 sons 15, 9 and 7.. We are staying at Radio City suites for 8 days...I want to go for the history of it and they will do the rides ofcourse and hotdogs at Nathans...the freak show is good, because one doesn%26#39;t find that anymore...thanks for the advice of swimming, They wanted to swim, but I think we%26#39;ll give it a pass...maybe just take pictures..I think a 1/2 day there will be enough for me.....We may save the brooklyn bridge for another night. I%26#39;m trying to be time efficient in traveling around.

Usually when folks post this question turns out they have only 3 days in NYC. But, I am pleasantly surprised, since you%26#39;re here for 8 days, I%26#39;d say YES to a day at Coney Island! Plus, since you have kids, you should def add the Aquarium.

Here%26#39;s an idea: Have a big breakfast and do something mellow in the AM, like maybe the Top of the Rock observatory. Start out for Coney Island around 1 pm. You get there by 2. Do all the stuff. Eat all the crap.Ride the rides. Play skeeball. Don%26#39;t forget the go-karts and batting cages! Bring CASH.

By the time you%26#39;re ready to head back at 5 or 6 or so, it might be a perfect time to walk the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan. Who knows? Maybe the kids (and you, hopefully) will be rejuvenated by a nap on the subway ride back to Brooklyn Heights.

Warning about the sideshows: Only go to the official ';Sideshow by the Seashore'; run by Coney Island U.S.A. . Don%26#39;t get suckered into seeing any individual scams, such as ';The World%26#39;s Largest Rat - ALIVE!!!'; That%26#39;s usually just a nutria or capybara.

Queens Blvd mapped out a great day for you in Coney Island and walking across the bridge - should end up creating some magical memories for you and your family.

One (little) tip, freeze some bottles of water in your fridge apartment and bring them along for each of you - it%26#39;ll melt a bit by the time you reach Coney Island - but still be icy cold to sip in the hot sun. There are very few places to get any shade there, so have some sunscreen with you and hats with visors.

Enjoy. Ta. MMM!

thanks guys, I am definately going to give it a try...yes I thought the rest on the subway will help...weather permitting, thats one day complete.

and thanks for the tip about cash....
