Going to New York for New Year, Do the sales actually start on the 26th of December or later and by about the 2nd of January are all the bargains gone??????????????????????

You will still find some things on the second.
But honestly my favorite shopping day of the year now is December 26th. That week between Christmas and New Year is a big shopping week with alot of sales. But better to see what is left on the 2nd of Jan. then not to shop here at all. hopefully you will still find some good things.
