current road/weather conditions NYC to NF, Great Wolf Lodge

Hi - am reposting my msg from the NYC forum here with hopes for some feedback from Niagara Falls experts.

We (family of 4 incl 2 boys 6 %26amp; 9) are considering a last minute vacation early next week - driving up to Niagara Falls from Long Island and staying at Great Wolf Lodge. My husband wants to see the Falls and my kids want to go to a local waterpark, SplishSplash, so this might be a fun compromise.

First, does anyone know how I can find current weather/traffic conditions from here to there? With the awful flooding in parts of PA, NJ, NY right now, I don%26#39;t even know if a car trip to Niagara early next week would be possible. If not, we%26#39;ll postpone.

And is Great Wolf worth it? I think the cheapest room is about $260/nt but I believe that includes use of their indoor waterpark on the days of check-in and check-out. Can anyone compare the 2 waterparks mentioned here?

aaa (if your a member) always has up-to-date road conditions. theres no road construction going on on our part of the thruways over here but i would check nysdot to know what to expect (www.dot.state.ny.us) great wolf is a new property and is still hard to say if the price is worth it. the place is a chain resort though so i dont see why it wouldnt be short of excellent. the ny side waterpark is larger but theres countless waterparks throughout the region that with suffice a 6 and 9 yearolds interests.

not trying to ruin your plans but i wouldnt be surprised if that hotel room is booked now...its the busiest weekend of the year in niagara falls with canada and independence day and all

$260 is very reasonable for the Wolf Lodge in July - will be fun. I have had guests coming from NJ all week with no problems - so I think you will be fine...

Make sure to do Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds before leaving...........

Thank you all for your replies. The weather and roads looked iffy, so we decided to take it easy and stay home for the 4th instead. We definitely want to do the trip still - in August -- go to Niagara Falls, do the Maid of the Mists and other attractions, and stay at Great Wolf for one of the nights. For the other couple of nights I am thinking of finding a hotel closer to the falls, maybe with a fallview and convenient location to the rest of the fun stuff. Any suggestions for the 2nd hotel? We%26#39;d like to keep the cost down on that stay to make up for the Great Wolf. And are there fireworks over the falls on some nights? The kids enjoy fireworks shows these days. thanks again
