NYC to Niagra Falls

We are wanting to travel independantly from NYC to Niagra Falls (3 adults and 1 child) Have been previously on an organised day trip but thought doing it ourselves would be much cheaper - intend to fly Jet Blue from JFK to Buffalo - would like to know how easy it should be to get a taxi from Buffalo to the falls and if any paperwork (other than passports) are needed as we intend to go to the Canadian side

NYC to Niagra Falls

We only needed passports when we entered Canada from the US last year. Are you going back into the US for your flight home? If so, ask if you can keep your Visa Waiver form (you%26#39;ll need to show your airline ticket), and it%26#39;ll save some time on the return( I speak from experience of NOT having it for the return!)

Hi Yankies - Just go to the search line at the top of the form and type in Niagara Falls in the blank space and press GO. You will find lots of helpful advice on going to Niagara Falls from NYC. You might have to wade through a few posts but I remember reading about the best way to get to the Falls from the airport in Buffalo, etc. There are a number of options. Have fun!

It%26#39;s about a 30 minute drive from Downtown Buffalo to Niagara Falls, an easy drive though not sure about in a cab.

Passports is all you need. We found it more difficult coming back into the USA !

Make sure you visit Cave of the Winds when in Niagara. It%26#39;s on the US side, on Goat Island. It was the best Niagara attraction and the cheapest!

Thanks for the advice we will certainly visit Cave of the Winds - can I ask - what did you mean about having problems getting back into the US?

No problems, they just asked a lot more questions. But that%26#39;s the Americans I guess.

They wanted to know where we were going and why - ';our hotel, cos that%26#39;s where are stuff is!';

We did take the confirmation of our return flight as we%26#39;d heard they%26#39;d check this kind of information to make sure you%26#39;re gonna leave but they never checked any of it, just the passports.

On the same holiday we also did a day trip into Mexico and it was easier to get from Mexico to the US than it was UK to US or Canada to US.

You%26#39;ll be fine!

Just the Falls? ... A taxi can work, but you should price out a rental. I often do rent there as I fly into Buffalo and get a car to visit friends and family on both sides.

However, there are nice places to visit downstream. I like Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and Fort Niagara, New York. They are opposite of each other where the Niagara enters Lake Ontario.

I%26#39;ve crossed the Niagara River for almost sixty years and always point friends to the other features I mention. In fact, I was just there in May and convinced friends to do just that in addition to visiting the Falls.

I%26#39;ll admit to spending two weeks in Great Britian and not driving because I worried about driving on the ';wrong'; side. It was easier getting around with public transportation there than you will find in the Niagara area.
