LT and NK in NYC: a trip preview

BACKGROUND:

NK (my husband) and I (LT) will be arriving 7/19 and leaving 7/25. We will be staying in Jersey City with a friend of NK. Friend lives a short distance from a PATH station, and for us the inconvenience of having to travel into the city each day will be worth the lodging savings.

We are in our late 20%26#39;s. NK is an architect, and we both enjoy architecture and design. I%26#39;m looking forward to sampling local beers and would love any suggestions.

ITINERARY:

I have tried to include a mix of activities each day so we aren%26#39;t walking for several hours straight or visiting multiple museums in one day. I%26#39;ve included the names of restaurants if we are planning on eating at a specific place.

*Items marked with an asterisk are %26#39;non-negotiable%26#39; meaning we have to do them on that day/at that time because we already have tickets/the place has limited hours/the place has free admission/etc.

I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions for improvement. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

LT and NK in NYC: a trip preview

Seems reasonable. Even though MoMA is free on Fridays, it is a zoo. If you really want to see stuff, you may want to go another time and suck up the $20 each. Just my opinion.

I thought exactly the same thing as BobbyC. I would avoid MoMa on Friday and buy my tickets online to avoid waiting in line.

I was afraid the MoMA would packed Friday night.

Thanks for the advice.

Is it safe to assume that a good time to visit without the crowds would be a weekday earlier in the day?

Wednesday: I would not waste time going down to Battery Park City on this day, go on Monday. Instead knock off Grand Central Terminal, Rock, Chrylser which are nearer.

Monday: MET is closed. I would also check on the days and hours of operations of your other museum choices as well. Monday--Guggenheim is out of the way.

Nice plans, good choices. Be flexible, you might be tired and traveling a lot (for instance, subway from LES to MOMA is at least 1/2 hour). The tenement museum is quite good.

Saturday:

Suggestion for pizza (not Sicilian, thin crust real Italian, some of my favorite pizza in NYC) in Williamsburg: Brick Oven Gallery, 33 Havemeyer St (between N7th and N8th). Havemeyer is 3 blocks east of Bedford. Looks like about an 8 block walk from Brooklyn Brewery.

Best Beer Bar in NYC (Belgians on tap, 100 rare bottles): Spuyten Duyvil (unmarked red bar at 359 Metropolitan Ave, about 3 blocks south of N 7th St and Havemeyer).

Williamsburg is nowhere near the Brooklyn Bridge. When you are down in Battery Park City or Chinatown walk across town to Brooklyn Bridge and see it then. The park stretch from the new West Village Piers to Wagner Park (just north of Battery Park) is all really nice, best experienced on rollerblades (to get past the stretch that is still under construction).

I think the Met is closed on Mondays??? Check out those museum hours. Sunday brunch (get there around 11 or it%26#39;s crowded) in the euro-style cafe with views of Central Park (not the one by the American Wing) is really good. Since the Met is next to Central Park you might want to do them the same day.

REVISIONS:

Wed:

-United Nations tour

-Check out Chrysler Bldg, et.al in area

Phantom

Fri:

-MoMA (will it be okay crowd-wise to go when it opens on Friday?)

-LES Soundwalk

-Tenement Museum

-Met Museum (open until 9pm - is Fri pm a busy time here?)

Mon:

-Battery Park City public art

-St. Paul%26#39;s

-Wall Street

-Guggenheim (how far out of the way is it?)

I do appreciate the suggestions and those who caught my Met-on-Monday mistake! That would have been an unpleasant surprise.

kenito799,

Thanks for the pizza rec. I%26#39;m sure after an hour or two at the brewery it will be a welcome stop.

Guggenheim is near the MET. I would substitute Tenement for Guggenheim and vice versa.

...and LES soundwalk as well, keep it with lower Manhattan activities.
