Reasonably priced hotel for Mother and Daughter!

I%26#39;m looking for a reasonably budget hotel to stay in in NYC in August for a week with my 60ish mother. Any recommendations? I think cleanliness and a private bathroom are her two requests! Anyone heard of the Larchmont hotel? Cheers, any recommendations (or %26#39;steer-clear-of...%26#39;s!!) greatly appreciated!

What is the top price per room you want to pay?

Preferably no more than $150/night excl tax..is that possible??!

Look at the Newton. Reserve for room with private bathroom (most do) and will probably under $150.

The Newton Hotel is on the Upper West Side on Broadway and 95th Street. It gets good reviews, especially for value. It is in a safe residential neighborhood with close by shops and good moderately priced restaurants. It is one block from the subway which can get you to midtown in 10 minutes and most anywhere in Manhattan in 30 minutes.

I don%26#39;t think the Larchmont has private bathrooms. The Newton is well regarded, particularly for cleanliness. And it%26#39;s convenient to public transportation. Just a short ride to Times Square (so easy getting home from theater), but away from all the insanity there.

Also compare rates and reviews for these upper west side hotels: Lucerne, Excelsior, Beacon, Belleclaire, On the Ave, Comfort Inn Central Park. And, in midtowntown west, the Belvedere, Novotel, Salisbury, Radio City Apts.

The three hotels you should AVOID are the Carter, New Yorker, Pennsylvania. But for a fun diversion, read the reviews and look at the photos posted by TA contributors!

Hello,

You%26#39;ll need to keep monitoring their web sites, but I saw rates at the Hilton garden Inn Times Square and the Hampton Inn Times Square for as low as $129/night (and these were fully cancelable VS advanced purchase rates). Mind you, both went up to $140 or so during week nights, but they are both still a good value in my humble opinion. Both hotels have good reviews here. The trick as that the rates change constantly on their sites (you can always just use the hilton.com main site and sort the hotels from there), so you should check every few days.

Hi Guys,

Thank you vv much for you%26#39;re info - esp. for the ones to avoid! After doing some looking at reviews and shopping around I%26#39;ve plumped on the Beacon as there was a good deal on expedia., didn%26#39;t find a bad review and it has a kitchenette which will be good if mum doesn%26#39;t feel like dining out each night!!

Thanks again, I%26#39;ve found TA v useful! Will post my own review of Beacon when we%26#39;re back!

Bumping this post up because it has some good budget lodging alternatives.
