safe in Brooklyn?

Why is the area of 599 Utica Ave. so unsafe, is it just during the night, or is it not safe to walk to the subway during the day either?

Everyone says not to stay there, what is up with the area????

Janene, if you %26amp; your husband have a gun, bring it. The area is in one of the impact Precincts of NYPD, these areas have the highest crime in the whole city. Trust me, you do not want to stay here.

I have to pass this place when I go home and trust me if it was as bad as Braveheart or anyone else is making out I wouldn%26#39;t even travel there. As I said I wouldn%26#39;t recommend it a few years ago, but believe me Utica Avenue is a very busy street and it is not that easty to commit a crime and get away with it. Besides there are more cops around there than there is any other part of Brooklyn. Like anywhere you go in New York be careful with your handbag and stay alert.

I do admit that it is a weird place to have a hotel located because there isn%26#39;t anything to do around there but get on the bus to get to the subway.

Janene i want to thank you for asking this question. my son has a soccer game in brooklyn this summer and we were thinking of staying at the howard johson hotel at 599 utica. we needed a review of the area and now we have one from travelers and a local resident so we are better prepared to make the decision whether to stay there, which i think we are not. whew! that was a close one. thanks again.
