Suggestions for trendy affordable (150/p) restaurant????

Hey ya%26#39;ll,

Five girlfriends and I will be travelling to Manhattan next weekend and are looking to go out for one %26#39;nice%26#39; meal. We are all fresh out of university so a bit short on funds but are willing to splurge around 150 per person for a good meal. We would l ike to go somplace trendy yet affordable. Any suggestions???

Thanks, in advance!!!

I think Balthazar or Pastis would be good for you. Here is a link to the website so you can look at the menu%26#39;s.

Hmmm I guess either a steakhouse, or Italian.

these are delicious italian places, trendy, downtown, sexy. you%26#39;ll also be in a great area to go to several bars all up and down the blocks nearby.

falai

68 clinton at rivington

the orchard

162 orchard btwn stanton and rivington

inoteca

98 rivington at ludlow

lupa

170 thompson btwn houston and bleecker

Yikes, if 150 pp is affordable, I guess we will be eating in fast food places. I thought the hotels were expensive. Please tell me that you can eat for less and still have a nice dinner.

Steakhouses can tend to be stuff, old-boy places but two that definitely are NOT are Dylan Prime or BLT Steak. Both have a younger crowd and good steak to boot.

Another possibility, as mentioned above, is Balthazar. It has an unbelievable cote du beouf (rib steak) for two that is delicious as well as steak frites (steak and fries). Hip atmosphere and loud.

Reservations necessary for all three, make them now. For more information on these places check out menupages.com.

Have no worries, jbriles! You%26#39;ll have plenty of fine selections for under $40 person, and even lower, without ever having to step foot in a chain restaurant or fast food place!!

Thank you Queensboulevard for the links! This is exactly what I needed. This forum is so helpful! Sorry to butt in on your post, blondie.

You could also go to the Gramercy Tavern. It is supposed to be good and it seems trendy enough. I looked at the menu but the people in there looked too ';groomed'; for me. It is a see and be seen kind of place. But you are 20something girls so it would be up your alley.

There%26#39;s the Mercer Kitchen which is super good and it is also a beautiful restaurant.

For Italian and trendy, there is Da Silvano on 6th avenue near Bleecker. I don%26#39;t know if it is any good but their terrace is full of people who want to be seen there!

I know I must be repeating myself, but don%26#39;t go to Lupa please. Since you are willing to spend as much as 150$ per person, I would go to Babbo instead which is another one of Batali%26#39;s restaurants. I hated Lupa. I said in an old post that you eat better at Italian places with candles in Chianti bottles!! If you don%26#39;t want to spend too much, you could go to Otto..another one of Batali%26#39;s restaurants. If is super nice and they have the greatest italian wines.

Il Cantinori on Tenth between Broadway and Univeristy is wonderful Tuscan food, lovely ambiance and even with drinks shouldn%26#39;t run more than $100 pp. Just remember to tip - the staff gets paid lousy shift pay - like $10 for the whole night! - so they really rely on the tips. Ta. MMM!
